Natter News
North Yorkshire – Nick Mann
Our November meeting took the form of a games night.
Not your traditional darts and doms but in fact indoor golf. Well,
indoor putting to be precise, and what a splendid evening it turned out
to be. Everyone took part and clearly there are a number of closet
golfers in North Yorks judging by the level of skill displayed by many
of our members. There were two competitions, one for each gender and by
the end of the evening we had two winners, namely Kate Marsden for the
ladies and Jeff Marsden for the men. We had to stage a play off and
after much cajoling, Jeff and Kate got to work, and what a needle match
it turned out to be, with Jeff finally coming out the winner, but only
just! Everyone agreed it had been a splendid evening so it looks as
though we may be repeating the exercise again next year. In the
meantime, I plan to spend a little time at the local pitch and putt in
order to give Mr Marsden a run for his money!!
December is the one month in the year when we don't
meet for a natter instead
enjoyed a Christmas Dinner at Steeton Hall
By now we will have undertaken our
traditional New Year’s Walk which was
a heaven sent opportunity to work
off some of those extra pounds that have crept upon us
during the festive season
South Yorkshire
– Marie Dobson
South Yorkshire got the New Year off to a good start with the Chilly
Willy run from Bank View Café, Langsett to Ye Olde Mustard Pot,
Midhopestones. Pete and
Keith had put together an excellent circular route of around 40
miles as an alternative to the somewhat shorter (1.6 miles) sat nav
route.
Next on the agenda was a ten-pin bowling evening at the Doncaster Bowl on
11 January, attended by 8 bowlers and 3 supporters.
Geoff was top of the scoreboard in both games, scoring 117
and 132 respectively.
Well done Geoff!
To finish off the month, this year’s winter walk took place on 22
January. Led by Iris, a
crocodile of 19 had an enjoyable circular stroll from Grindleford
Station café, taking refuge from the weather at Longshaw Visitor
Centre tea room before continuing on our way!

East Yorkshire – Brian Rylance
At
the January natter I mentioned that at the start of the New Year all
the other natters in the centre had a change of leader and scribe.
Only one name was mentioned so here we go again for another
year.
Just
to boost moral after Marjorie’s motoring quiz last year we had an
easy peasy motoring quiz, with everyone getting good marks.
Unfortunately for Clifford he won and his prize is the pleasure of
organising future entertainment.
We
had a very good attendance for January (37), are we so popular or
was it just to collect the gallons of cheap oil that James was
selling, Anyway come back in March for
the Yorkshire Centre AGM - there’s usually a free supper.
