Review of 2009 Events

The Mille Miglia 2009 by Brian Rylance

Recipe:

Take 1 Maserati classic car, 1 Yorkshire Chef, 6 MGCC car club members, 3 doting chef fans, 1 Mercedes SLK, 1 Ford Focus CC, 1 MG RV8 and a 1000 mile “race”.  Break the Maserati into an Italian classic car event, mix with 380 classic cars & loads of dosh. Follow the 2009 route at a more leisurely pace & Bake in the Italian sunshine for 2 weeks and 2800 miles..

The Mille Miglia 2008 was a bit of a disaster for James Martin but it did inspire 6 of us to drive to Brescia for the 2009 event, the ladies hoping for a second coming of their hero James.  Timing however was not good. 4 of us organise and run “The Wolds Way” car rally in East Yorkshire involving over 100 classic and sports cars. The run was on the preceding Sunday and if we were to get to Brescia for the start we would have to push our MGB roadsters to hard for comfort. Experience in attending the MGCC Euro event at Zug Switzerland in 2008 gave us valuable experience in what they could do well. So we substituted a Mercedes SLK and a Focus CC to travel with the RV8.

East Yorkshire

is held on the 1st Wednesday of the Month

They say records are for breaking; so we did it again for our July Lunch in the Country.  Sixteen MGs and that pesky Honda S800 squeezed into the car park of the Bay Horse, Terrington in the heart of the Howardian Hills.  Good food, good home-brewed ale and sunshine as well.  How do we do it?

The Tiger Natter continues to attract a capacity attendance and as we were away in France in July we missed the opportunity of meeting the Foldhazy family, over from Australia, who honoured us with a visit, having been introduced by Alan Dakeyne.  Also, a welcome to Vicki & Alan Scurr and last but not least, old friends Simon & Ann Cherry who we have not seen for many a year.

18th August Lunch in the Country is the Everley Hotel in Forge Valley.  Meet at Langlands Garden Centre, Shiptonthorpe, 10.00am for a 10.30am start, or Fimber cafe/car park, just south of the B1248/B1251 roundabout at 11.00am for 11.30am.

Our final Lunch in the Country will be on 15 September, venue to be decided.  This will be announced at the Natter on 1 September, or contact as below.  Finally, did you spot the deliberate mistake in August SF.  The Lion Inn run was in June, not August as stated.

Tiger Natters as usual from 12:00 noon on the first Wednesday of the month at The Tiger Inn, Lairgate, Beverley, HU17 8JG.
