East Yorkshire    is held on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Following our AGM Jill Thornton is now the main contact for the East Yorkshire Natter. We thank Chris Moore for her huge contribution as past  natter Leader.

Steve Mills is to co-ordinate the activities at the evening natters.  Steve Trossell is the event leader for the Wolds Way and Chris Moore is event leader for Sledmere.

Event committee members: Wolds Way:  Steve and Kate Trossell, Brian Rylance, Mary Render, Dave and Pauline Carey, Greg and Jill Thornton, Sledmere:     Chris and Steve Moore.  Bill and Janet Sharp, David and Carol Copeman, Geoff and Pauline Norcliffe.   Volunteers to help on the committees would be very welcome.

Natter members and friends attended a charity doooo in aid of the teenage Cancer Ward at Castle Hill Hospital.  Superbly organised by our own Reid Family to sponsor son, Chris and Nick Harvey in an epic coast to coast run (on legs – no car!!!!) from South Shields to Gretna and to cycle back, all in 48 hours.

With Stuart we add our condolences to Carol Jopling on the sad loss of Denis

Sunday 8th May 2011 - Wolds Way Run
(Organised by East Yorkshire)

For all MG, Classic and Sports Cars

This run regularly attracts 100 plus cars. Now in its 16th year, it is named after the Wolds Way long distance footpath which explores the best scenery in the area. This year a brand new route of around 100 miles starts at the Humber Bridge and finishes on the western edge of the Wolds at the ultra-modern KP Golf Club near Pocklington. At the lunch stop our cars will be parked overlooking the sea on the front lawns of Sewerby Hall near Bridlington. The entry fee of £18.00 includes tulip style route book, rally plaque and tea/coffee for two at the KP Club. To make the best of the day, join in the early evening BBQ on the KP Club terrace for £8.00 per person. Proceeds from the event will go to charity.

Please note the closing date for entries is 25th April and we regret we cannot accept entries on the day.

Review of 2009 Events  (East Yorkshire)

The Mille Miglia 2009 by Brian Rylance

Recipe:

Take 1 Maserati classic car, 1 Yorkshire Chef, 6 MGCC car club members, 3 doting chef fans, 1 Mercedes SLK, 1 Ford Focus CC, 1 MG RV8 and a 1000 mile “race”.  Break the Maserati into an Italian classic car event, mix with 380 classic cars & loads of dosh. Follow the 2009 route at a more leisurely pace & Bake in the Italian sunshine for 2 weeks and 2800 miles..

The Mille Miglia 2008 was a bit of a disaster for James Martin but it did inspire 6 of us to drive to Brescia for the 2009 event, the ladies hoping for a second coming of their hero James.  Timing however was not good. 4 of us organise and run “The Wolds Way” car rally in East Yorkshire involving over 100 classic and sports cars. The run was on the preceding Sunday and if we were to get to Brescia for the start we would have to push our MGB roadsters to hard for comfort. Experience in attending the MGCC Euro event at Zug Switzerland in 2008 gave us valuable experience in what they could do well. So we substituted a Mercedes SLK and a Focus CC to travel with the RV8.

East Yorkshire

is held on the 1st Wednesday of the Month

Both of the East Yorkshire Natters were saddened to hear of the passing of Denis Jopling in December after a long illness.  Denis was an enthusiast who was always ready to take on any task for the benefit of his fellow members.  Over several years in the 90s he took charge of the Concours judging in the East Yorkshire Group’s annual Sledmere Show.  Denis enjoyed a long career in the automotive industry, including working for Armstrong Components before embarking as a freelance sales agent. In his younger days Denis was a keen participant in stage rallying. Our sympathies go out to his wife, Carol, and family.

We very nearly lost our Lunchtime Natter venue just before Christmas when the Tiger suffered a fire in the kitchen.  Fortunately the fire was contained, but at one stage there was fear that this traditional pub was going to be destroyed.

Tiger Natters are held from 12:00 noon on the first Wednesday of the month at The Tiger Inn, Lairgate, Beverley, HU17 8JG.

Contact Stuart or Irene 01430 871078 or mga@live.co.uk

A couple of dates for your diary, these will be mentioned in April's Safety Fast:

Sunday 17 April is National Drive-it-Day, promoted by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs to raise awareness in the classic car movement.  There will be a run starting from Langlands Garden Centre, Shiptonthorpe to the Falconry Centre at Kirby Wiske, near Thirsk.  Meet for coffee at 10.00am.  Falconry displays will take place at 1:30pm and 3:30pm.  There is a snack bar serving sandwiches etc. and drinks, but not cooked meals.  You are welcome to bring a picnic.  We have arranged dedicated parking for MGs and classic cars.  There will also be a special group admission charge of £5.50Adult/£4.50 Seniors.  Names to Stuart or Irene please.

Wednesday 20 April is our first Lunch-in-the-Country run of the season.  Meet at Langlands Garden Centre, Shiptonthorpe at 10.30am for a short drive into the Wolds and a home cooked lunch at the Goodmanham Arms, Goodmanham.
