Pauline Carey, Greg and Jill Thornton, Sledmere:

Sunday 8th May 2011 - Wolds Way Run
(Organised by East Yorkshire)
For all MG,
Classic and Sports Cars
This run regularly attracts 100 plus cars. Now in its 16th
year, it is named after the Wolds Way long distance footpath which explores the
best scenery in the area. This year a brand new route of around 100 miles starts
at the Humber Bridge and finishes on the western edge of the Wolds at the
ultra-modern KP Golf Club near Pocklington. At the lunch stop our cars will be
parked overlooking the sea on the front lawns of Sewerby Hall near Bridlington.
The entry fee of £18.00 includes tulip style route book, rally plaque and
tea/coffee for two at the KP Club. To make the best of the day, join in the
early evening BBQ on the KP Club terrace for £8.00 per person. Proceeds from the
event will go to charity.
Please note the
closing date for entries is 25th April and we regret we
cannot accept entries on the day.

The Mille Miglia 2008 was a bit of a
disaster for James Martin but it did inspire 6 of us to drive to Brescia for the
2009 event, the ladies hoping for a second coming of their hero James. Timing
however was not good. 4 of us organise and run “The Wolds Way” car rally in East
Yorkshire involving over 100 classic and sports cars. The run was on the
preceding Sunday and if we were to get to Brescia for the start we would have to
push our MGB roadsters to hard for comfort. Experience in attending the MGCC
Euro event at Zug Switzerland in 2008 gave us valuable experience in what they
could do well. So we substituted a Mercedes SLK and a Focus CC to travel with
the RV8.

is held on the 1st Wednesday of the Month
Both of the East Yorkshire
Natters were saddened to hear of the passing of Denis Jopling in December after
a long illness. Denis was an enthusiast who was always ready to take on any
task for the benefit of his fellow members. Over several years in the 90s he
took charge of the Concours judging in the East Yorkshire Group’s annual
Sledmere Show. Denis enjoyed a long career in the automotive industry,
including working for Armstrong Components before embarking as a freelance sales
agent. In his younger days Denis was a keen participant in stage rallying. Our
sympathies go out to his wife, Carol, and family.
We very nearly lost our
Lunchtime Natter venue just before Christmas when the Tiger suffered a fire in
the kitchen. Fortunately the fire was contained, but at one stage there was
fear that this traditional pub was going to be destroyed.
Tiger
Natters are held from 12:00 noon on the first Wednesday of the month at The
Tiger Inn, Lairgate, Beverley, HU17 8JG.
